Healthy For You Hot Cocoa

hot cocoa recipe

I'm an adult. I know that, you know that, the DMV knows that. Its undeniable, truly.

But if you were to assess my age based on my beverage consumption alone - its questionable, no doubt.

Coffee's not my thing, beer tastes like soggy bread, and there's only one kind of wine I can really get behind.

But cocoa, man. That stuff is in my inner circle. There's nothing better than a rainy day, a cozy sweater and a warm cup of hot chocolate to sooth the soul. I'm hooked on the hard stuff.

And being that I love to drink it so regularly, I've come up with my own little tasty creation that's not only delicious, but less processed & sugary than the classic cocoa mix I grew up loving. Hope you find some solace from winter (and adulting) in this cozy cup.

Prep time: 5 miN

Total time: 5 min

Makes: 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk

  • 2 Tbsp unsweetened organic cocoa powder

  • 1-2 Tbsp maple syrup or sugar-free monkfruit sweetener

  • small pinch of sea salt (help brings out the flavors of the chocolate and sweetener)

  • dairy-free coconut-based whipped cream

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients except the whipped cream into a saucepan over medium heat, using a whisk to break up any clumps.

Keep stirring until smooth and hot, then pour into a mug, top with coconut whipped cream and serve warm.

ENJOY!
